A veritable feast of choral delights are to be heard at a choral recital by CANTATE, one of the choirs of Portsmouth Cathedral, on Saturday 21 October at Ayia Kyriaki.

The recital commences at 8.00 pm and includes works by Bach, Faure, Stanford, Howells, Jackson and Vaughan Williams as well as some close harmony and solo items.

The choir will also be singing at the 6.00 pm Anglican service of Holy Eucharist at Ayia Kyriaki Church on Sunday 22 October.

This is the choir’s fifth international tour following successful trips to France, Austria, The Alps, Malta and Italy. ‘We are delighted to be singing in Cyprus and thank our friends and hosts here for all they have done to help us on our way’ said choir Director, David Price.

CANTATE is one of Portsmouth Cathedral’s three choirs and is made up of 20 Girl Choristers alongside the Cathedral Choral Scholars.

Formed in 2006, this versatile and exciting choir opens the way for girls and teenage boys to add their voices to choral worship both in Portsmouth Cathedral, in concerts around the Anglican Diocese of Portsmouth as well as other prestigious venues such as Westminster Abbey, Lambeth Palace and Canterbury Cathedral.

CANTATE sings Evensong each Thursday during term time, in addition to many events in various concert venues. They are involved in the Portsmouth Cathedral’s Sing Up Chorister Outreach Programme and feature on a number of the Cathedral’s recent CDs. The Choir has also performed in the Portsmouth Festivities and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3’s The Choir and Choral Evensong and Radio 4’s Sunday Worship. Last year they sang the Second Sea Lord’s Carol Service on board HMS Victory.
