For the third year running, the annual Chaplaincy BBQ was held at the idyllic Peyia Forest picnic area. Set in acres of pine woodlands the picnic areas, decked out with BBQ facilities, tables and ‘toilets’, prove to be a popular venue.
40 people enjoyed the BBQ of burgers, sausages, chicken and vegetable kebabs, jacket potatoes, baps and a wide range of salads – all for €5 per head! We hope to repeat the event next year and all friends, family and visitors are welcome.
Twenty-two members, of our Paphos Chaplaincy, travelled to St. Barnabas Church, Limassol, for a Service of Evening Prayer during which Bishop Michael licensed Ken to his new ministry. The Church was packed for a very moving service that had a spiritual warmth and Archdeacon John’s sermon contained words that were very uplifting and relevant to us all.
The service was followed by a gathering in the Church Hall for nibbles, tea, coffee etc. Ken will take up his duties as from 1st August 2013 in the Limassol Mission to Seafarers Centre.
The congregations of St. Luke’s, St. Stephen’s and Ayia Kyriaki gathered together in Peyia Forest, between Paphos and Polis, for a celebration of Holy Communion followed by a picnic.
The day was fine and not too hot, and by 11.00 there 53 of us under the trees ready to sing and pray, to hear God’s word and receive the sacrament. It was a wonderful mixture of praise and devotion, lots of great singing, with a flute to help us along, and prayerful worship.
After the service many stayed on for a picnic and good fellowship was had by everyone. It was certainly an Ascension Day I shall never forget and my thanks to everyone who contributed and organised this celebration in such a memorable way.
